Best Udemy Course I've Taken

Incredibly thorough breakdown of all the tasks and conflicts that will make up the path from writing completion to waiting for reader validation. Brilliant amount of engagement and input on the part of lecturer

Very informative and a great start to any self publishing author

I took this course not knowing what to expect and I expected something much shorter. The course was very good in going through more then just how to get a book up on amazon but also included how you need to approach the whole self publishing world. It was a good course to help you understand what you are getting into and how to prepare yourself for the best and the worst to come.

I haven't been able to follow through with all the info in the course since I'm still finishing my books but looking back on the course I can see what I've learned and how it can make a big difference to an author. If you intend to publish your book anywhere online then this is a good course to know what to expect. If you are planning on publishing your book through amazon's ebook store then this is a great course.

Highly recommended!!!

Excellent course!

There is a lot of good information about how to go about getting your book published, as well as what to expect while publishing, when publishing to Kindle. I would have liked a bit more information in some areas, but even with that preference of mine it is still well worth the full 5 stars. A favorite lesson of mine was regarding the bad reviews you WILL be getting with your book and a little on how to cope with them and not returning fire.

Good material, lots of filler and fluff

A good class for the price. I almost gave up on this class but I am glad I did not. There is good content in here but one has to wade through a lot of fluff to find it.

Skip sections 1 and 2 unless you have lived under a rock for the past 20 years.

Section 3 - use HTML/KF8 and manually code the markup. Now you can skip Section 3 too.

Section 4 is the meat of the course. I found this information excellent and extremely helpful.

Sections 5 and 6 return to more trite observations. Skip those too.

What Others Don't Tell You

Steven Lewis's impartial approach gives me a lot of confidence. There're many things "not quite right" about Amazon, but Steven points them out and showed me how to work around them.

The issue of tax withholding alone is worth the price of this course. Although some Amazon/US tax rules have changed since then, I followed the instructions on the blog post he suggested we read, and got my "EIN" this morning in less than 20 minutes over the phone - and I'm just a sole trader (not a company)

Once I got my EIN, the tax interview on kdp is easy - Amazon even auto-created a W8 form online and submitted it electronically on my behalf!

Now I'm creating my first Kindle ebook so that I can join authorcentral

BTW, Amazon has improved its payment system since this course was created - even Australian publishers can receive international wire (called "telegraphic transfers" in Australia) payments from the US store (and most of the others), but each wire still costs $12 (compared to the $15 check processing fee before). Not sure if we can tell Amazon to raise the payment threshold to, say, $1000 ?

Plus, as of Nov 2013, the Australian KDP store has opened, and earnings there can be sent to AU publishers via EFT, no fees! But, the catch is, the Australian GST applies, so book prices have to be 10% higher! Publishers would have to accept the 35% royalty option in order to prevent sales on non-Australian sites (who don't add the GST)... sigh, I just knew KDP.AU is too good to be true!
